At the regular Assembly of the member clubs of the Judo Federation of Slovenia, held in Ljubljana, Bogdan Gabrovec submitted his irrevocable resignation from the position of President of the Judo Federation of Slovenia. Upon resigning, Bogdan Gabrovec said that, after approximately sixty years of involvement in judo, he felt the time had come to say goodbye. He thanked everyone for their many years of cooperation and emphasized that it had been an honour to work with them, even when they did not share the same views. He also expressed his wish for the Judo Federation of Slovenia to continue operating successfully in the future and to become one of the best sports federations in Slovenia.
Bogdan Gabrovec is regarded as one of the most prominent sports officials in Slovenian judo. He first led the Judo Federation of Slovenia between 1994 and 2014, and was then re-elected President in 2024. He also left an important mark on Slovenian sport more broadly as President of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, a position he held from 2014 to 2022.
Through his many years of work, he made a significant contribution to the development of Slovenian judo, the strengthening of the position of the Judo Federation of Slovenia, and the consolidation of judo’s role within Slovenian sport.
The Judo Federation of Slovenia sincerely thanks Mr. Bogdan Gabrovec for his many years of contribution, dedicated work, leadership, and efforts in the development of judo in Slovenia. His work significantly marked the activities of the Federation and left a lasting impact on Slovenian sport.
Until further notice, the Judo Federation of Slovenia will be temporarily led by current Vice President Simon Mohorovič, who said upon assuming the role: "It is an honour for me to take on such a responsible role, although I did not expect it. The Judo Federation of Slovenia needs a legal representative in order to function smoothly, and that is why I decided to accept this responsibility. At the same time, I believe that in the long term the Federation needs a president who will be fully and consistently available to it, whereas I am limited in terms of time due to other commitments. Therefore, my first task will be to convene a session of the Executive Board, at which we will jointly define the next steps."
