Second European medal this year for the Celje judoka.

Slovenian judoka Tara Janjić returned to the podium at a senior European Cup after claiming third place in Podgorica in March.

The 21-year-old fighter, the second seed in the over 78 kg category, received a bye in the first round and advanced directly to the semi-final. There she faced Serbian judoka Sara Marić, who scored a yuko with a low technique just over halfway through the contest, before pinning the Slovenian representative to secure the victory.

Tara continued the competition in the bronze-medal contest, where she faced home representative Danijela Kajtazović. After almost three minutes of fighting, she successfully countered her opponent to take the lead with a waza-ari, then immediately added another yuko in the following exchange. She held on to her advantage until the end of the contest and celebrated a bronze medal — her third medal at competitions of this level.

In addition to Tara, Gašper Kokalj also competed in Sarajevo today, finishing his campaign in the second round of the under 66 kg category.

Tomorrow, seven more Slovenian representatives will compete in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
